How to Apply
The UNH Dietetic Internship is available to mature, responsible individuals who are interested in entering the field of dietetics.
- Academic Preparation - Applicants must have a bachelor's degree and Verification of Completion of the Didactic Program in Dietetics within the past five years (Plan V). Students currently in the process of completing Didactic Program requirements must submit an Intent to Complete the Didactic Program signed by the DPD Director and must provide a completed Verification Statement prior to admittance to the program.
- Recency of Education - Applicants not meeting this requirement must complete recency of education requirements as determined by the UNH Dietetic Internship Selection Committee. (Contact Joanne Burke at jburke@cisunix.unh.edu or (603) 862-1456 for more information regarding course requirements.)
Participants will be selected on the basis of academic performance, letters of recommendation, work experience, civic and/or college activities and the letter of application.
Please submit the following information:
- Application forms. Both the internship application and student waiver forms are available. Click to download the "Dietetic Application Form (doc)" and the "Student Information Waiver Form (doc)" These are no longer available on disk from the American Dietetic Association, but can also be downloaded by going to their web page: http://www.depdpg.org.
- A letter of application stating reasons for seeking admission to the program. This is your opportunity to tell us more about your reasons for selecting dietetics as a career. You may want to include information about yourself and why you selected this internship. You may also wish to discuss other factors which might be helpful in the selection process. This is your opportunity to communicate with us about your goals and aspirations; therefore, we do not require a specific outline. Students will enter the program in mid-July and finish in the end of May.
- An official copy of your college transcript and any additional transcripts from colleges attended in addition to the primary degree granting institution.
- Verification of Completion of the Didactic Program in Dietetics within the past five years (Plan V) or the Declaration of Intent to Complete the Didactic Program. (In the latter instance, the Verification Statement must be received before entering the program.)
- Three letters of recommendation from individuals able to comment on your academic ability, work experience, leadership potential, character and personality. At least one letter should be from a food and nutrition instructor or professor.

Satisfactory completion of the physical examination is required.
Although not required, in-person or phone interviews with the Internship Staff may be requested by potential candidates. The Internship Selection Committee may also request phone interviews of certain candidates, at thier discretion.

All applicants to Dietetic Internships (DI) and most Pre-professional Practice Programs (AP4) must participate in computer matching. Applicants should request instructions and a mark/sense card to prioritize their DI or AP4 preferences. Applicants should request this material from any ADA-approved Didactic Program in Dietetics or from D&D Digital Systems. This request should be made to allow turn around time for submitting by a February 15, 2008 postmark deadline. There is no charge for this material. However, there is a $50.00 charge for computer matching that is due with the applicant's prioritized ranking.

Criminal Background Check
Final admission to the UNH Dietetic Internship is dependent upon completing a criminal background check. Interns are responsible for the cost of this check, as well as, completing the background check online at: https://www.myvci.com/newhampshire. If the criminal background check reveals questionable information, an intern may be denied direct patient/client access in precepting facilities. This will result in unsuccessful completion of the program. An intern who is not able to pass the required background check, will be dismissed from the program and tuition will not be refunded.
