UNH Dietetic Internship
Program Goals
The goals of the Dietetic Internship program are as follows:
- To recruit and educate a mix of both traditional and non-traditional students who meet the program's admission criteria.
- To develop dietetic professionals with strong interpersonal skills who collaborate with peers and members of various health care professions effectively.
- To demonstrate and foster an understanding of The American Dietetic Association's Code of Ethics and adhere to practice within the Code.
- To prepare dietitians who participate in continual professional growth and actualize career goals.
- To prepare dietitians who will be able to obtain entry-level positions in food service management, clinical nutrition, and community nutrition services.
- To foster the development of effective teaching/communication skills via active participation in individual counseling sessions and group presentations.
- To develop entry-level dietitians with the ability to design a research project impacting on the provision of food and/or nutritional status in diverse practice settings.
- To prepare Interns to successfully master the skills and competencies required to pass the Registration Examination for Dietitians.
- To provide the Intern with the opportunity to interact with local members of the American Dietetic Association to:
- Promote an understanding of the importance of individual contribution for professional growth and development in organizations.
- Understand the role of the ADA in defining and supporting the dietitian as a member of the health care team.
